About Me
My name is Kathleen Smith. I'm the Band and Orchestra director at Linus Pauling Middle School. Before joining the LPMS team, I taught band and orchestra in Palm Springs, California and before that, I was right here in Corvallis. I also taught Band at Seven Oak Middle School in Lebanon and prior to that, I was right here in Corvallis teaching with the Elementary Strings Program. Clearly, I love teaching the students of the Willamette Valley!
I'm a cellist, a trombonist and play saxophones. I graduated with my Bachelors and my Master of Arts in Teaching from Oregon State University... I am a Beaver Believer!
In the evenings when I'm not working with the great students in Corvallis, you may find me working with the OSU Marching Band and Athletic Bands.
I live in Corvallis with my husband Michael (a tuba player by night and does a lot of math by day... I don't really know about that part, but he's a tuba player!) We have two grown children, our son Stephan, is a fine percussionist, guitarist and all-around artist and is currently living and playing on his sailboat in Alaska. Our daugther Emily is a graduate of Oregon State University. She now lives and works in Idaho. She plays trumpet and is quite an accomplished dressage rider.
I'm a member of many teaching groups with many acronyms... Some of them are : NAfME (National Association for Music Education), OMEA (Oregon Music Educators Association), Mu Phi Epsilon (professional music fraternity), ASTA (American String Teachers Association) and I'm also a member of Women in Band Directing and some other groups I can't seem to think of at the moment.
I love music and I love teaching.... I have an open door policy. Please check in at the office and come into the band/ orchestra room to see what your kids are busy learning.
